An Intimate Wedding at Burgh House, Hampstead
I know you're not supposed to have favourites, but when it comes to an intimate wedding at Burgh House, Emma & Tom's is right up there. This day felt like it was destined to happen, and was the aligning of so many stars! There's a great story behind this day, so let's chat about it.
Star #1: Tom and I first met on a commercial shoot out in Cyprus a couple of years ago and instantly got on. Fast forward a few months and Emma & Tom started planning their own wedding. Originally from the south west, they had thought about planning something down there, but as residents of Hampstead, London felt like the right place.
Star #2: Emma started looking at local venues and actually found Burgh House via my blog post of Michelle & Christian's wedding from back in 2022. They instantly fell in love with the venue and decided to get it booked in.
Star #3: Emma also loved the photos from Michelle & Christian's wedding, so decided to show Tom. After a few minutes, Tom went "hang on, I KNOW this guy!" Cue an email landing in my inbox, and brilliant chat and catch up with them, and a booking in my diary.
Star #4: Fast forward again to 2025 and a hot afternoon in June. I was at Burgh House with the awesome Harry & Liam, and just popped out to make sure the bus that was taking us all from Burgh House to the evening reception venue had arrived. Who should come strolling past? Yep, Emma & Tom!
I told you, destiny!
Documentary Wedding Photography at Burgh House
So, after a super relaxed morning with both Tom & Emma, we all made our way to Burgh House for a beautifully intimate wedding ceremony. One of the best things about an intimate wedding ceremony is, because there are less pairs of eyes on you as the couple, it's a lot easier to feel comfortable and let the emotion flow. And boy did it flow on this day. As a documentary wedding photographer, emotion is my favourite thing on a wedding day, because it really translates into the photos and does such a great job of telling the story of that day. Burgh House is honestly one of the best spots for this too. The energy of the place feels so calming and comfortable, so it's always an emotional ceremony there.
Watching Emma & Tom together, you're instantly hit with this sense that they're just meant for each other. The way they looked at each other was really special to watch and it certainly made my job a whole lot easier!
A Relaxed Wedding Reception at Burgh House
After their beautiful and emotion-filled ceremony, everyone headed out into the courtyard garden for an equally emotional drinks reception and first round of speeches. Personally, this is my favourite part of the day, because the emotions are high, the hugs are flowing and the opportunities to make impactful photos are everywhere. This is often the part of the day couples miss because they're off taking a tonne of group photos or portraits, but I love being able to give my couples plenty of time to just go and enjoy the energy and emotion of the post-ceremony time, surrounded by all the people who really mean something to them! That's a really important thing to me, hence why my approach is built around giving my couples as much time as possible to go and experience their day.
London Wedding Photographer
So, after the drinks and speeches were done, we grabbed some quick group photos on the steps at the front of Burgh House, before the walk to The Magdala for dinner and the evening reception. Hampstead is absolutely crammed full of amazing photo spots, so it was easy to quickly grab plenty en route to the pub, without having to disrupt the flow of the day.
Golden hour was pretty important to Emma & Tom as well, so after a great roast dinner at The Magdala, we headed out onto Hampstead Heath to find some quiet spots and some cool light, before heading back for the final speeches and to kick off the party.
